When I go out to eat at Mexican restaurants around Dayton like El Rancho Grande, El Toro, etc. I usually order a La Paloma to drink.
“La Paloma” means “The Dove” in Spanish and it’s a popular cocktail in Mexico. It’s made from grapefruit soda (Jarritos is typical), tequila (you can pick which one – I usually go for Patrón), salt or Tajin, and sometimes lime juice. It sort of scratches the itch for a margarita but with less sugar and it’s sparkling instead of still.
On a recent visit to the El Rancho on Alex, I was surprised they made my drink in a fancy pot instead of a glass. It was so pretty and unexpected.

If you want to mix up your drink order and try something new, ask for a Paloma instead of a marg. It’s especially refreshing in the heat of summer!
