When I found out the Grande Hall inside Liberty Tower would be hosting an open house, I had to check it out. This art deco beauty has been one of my favorite buildings in Dayton for a while and it was great to see it all decked out.
The Place

I’m not sure how it’s possible that even under many different owners Liberty Tower never lost its gorgeous art deco finishes and details. I know that some of the offices have been renovated here and there, but the outside and the elevator hallway look straight out of a Ghostbusters movie.

When you walk inside the Grande Hall, it’s so impressive. The super high ceiling gives it so much drama and the details are perfect. It’s like stepping back in time and seeing something new all at once.

There’s a new bar to one side and at the back of the hall, there’s a bank vault featuring seating and a floor of pennies.

Upstairs is a mezzanine level to take in the whole Grande Hall view.

The Events
Mostly the Grande Hall is reserved for private events like weddings. When I visited for the open house, there were so many vendors set up that it reminded me of how many amazing caterers, planners, photographers, etc. there are in Dayton.

You can learn more about having your event at Grande Hall here.
The History
I remember driving and walking by this building and absolutely loving the exterior but I didn’t assume the inside was as glamorous until I saw the news about Liberty Tower being a filming location for Robert Redford’s Old Man and the Gun. The photos released during that time made it look like a perfectly preserved 1930s bank in the 1970s. They also filmed on the roof and you can see some of Dayton’s other buildings, too.

Before it was in a movie, Liberty Tower was also the office of the Army Signal Corp in WWII. It was built in 1931 and was designed by the same architects behind Hawthorn Hill.
