One of the newest businesses to open in Uptown Centerville is Felicity: Natural Wine & Coffee Shop. They’ve now had several soft opening weekends with more on the way. I had a chance to learn more about this wonderful spot, how it came to be, and where it’s headed.
All the things to love
You may recognize Felicity owners Megan Lees and Earl Hatmaker from their other successful business, Power Plant – a juice bar next to Old Scratch in Centerville-Washington Township. Between these two businesses, it’s clear the couple wants to make sure Dayton has a source for natural, healthy favorites.
“We have wanted to open a place that highlights all of the things that we love, like wine, coffee, and delicious food,” explains Lees. Felicity serves local Boston Stoker Coffee as well as all natural wines. “Natural” means that the grapes used to make the wine are organically grown and the wines are made without additives. “We love to enjoy things simply as they are, and we have loved trying the wide range of natural wines that have become much more available lately,” explains Hatmaker.
Coffee and wine are even better with food, and Felicity offers snacks, salads, charcuterie, and pastries. An assortment of craft beer, teas, and a kombucha smash round out their refreshing menu.
Natural food and retail items
While you sip a glass of wine, you can also peruse the shelves at Felicity. Their retail offerings include olive oils, crackers, tinned fish, chocolate, candles, and wine. Occasionally, they have local produce, eggs, and bakery items.
On a recent visit, I spotted lip balms and solid perfumes, as well.
Events and gatherings
Felicity is open on the weekends currently, though times and days vary – keep an eye on their Instagram and Facebook for the most up-to-date hours.
Saturday evenings, DJ Etch comes to spin vinyl while visitors enjoy the patio and indoor seating.
This may also be the perfect space for your next small gathering and Felicity is available for events with an option for catering and bartending.
A perfect fit in Uptown Centerville
“Opening Felicity in historic uptown Centerville is cool for us because we grew up in this area and have witnessed all of the amazing restaurants popping up in this area,” explains Hatmaker. “Each place is truly unique and we feel like we will be a special addition.”
The building itself has been restored to reveal a ton of original charm. The outside is brick and the inside has exposed brick and hardwood floors. The sitting area downstairs has a ton of light and a gorgeous fire place. The bathroom is homey and beautiful. The upstairs has additional seating featuring antique tables and chairs, including one repurposed door turned into a long table for a bigger group. Fun fact: This building was once a business belonging to a relative of Abraham Lincoln.
How it’s going so far
Each time I’ve visited, I’ve loved how welcoming Felicity is. It feels sort of like walking into a friend’s house – a friend who already has a great bottle of wine open waiting to pour you a glass and sit a while.
“We have curated a space that is just how we like it, and there are so many little details that make Felicity what it is,” explains Lees. “It is already everything we hoped for, and we can only see it getting better and better.”
The official grand opening is currently in the works for October. Until then, visit Felicity on the weekends at 27 W Franklin St in Uptown Centerville.
