ThreatreLab Dayton is a professional theatre company located in Downtown Dayton. Through immersive theatre experiences, they empower local creatives and artists to examine the human experience while entertaining audiences. Learn more about TheatreLab, their exciting season, and their upcoming show, The Producers (September 15-16 at Victoria Theatre).

Get to know TheatreLab’s The Producers

The Producers was a smash hit when it premiered on Broadway in 2001, opening to rave reviews and scooping up 12 Tony Awards during its run. Mel Brooks adapted the story to the stage based on his 1967 film of the same name.

“The heart of The Producers is rooted in friendship,” explains TheatreLab Executive Director, Philip Drennen. “In the show, we watch our two leading men bumble their way to fame and fortune, but we also watch their true loyalty to each other bloom.”

TheatreLab will be performing this absurd, larger-than-life comedy September 15-16 at the Victoria Theatre (tickets are on sale now!) with all local talent.

What’s next?

“This season, we’re highlighting ‘The Art of Making Art,’ which is a Sondheim reference!” explains TheatreLab Development Director, Allie Haines. “We chose musicals — and one thrilling play — that showcase characters writing, producing, and performing their art in hilarious, heartbreaking, and sometimes dangerous ways.”

Next for TheatreLab is their first ever play, Stephen King’s Misery. It will run from October 26-November 4 at the PNC Arts Annex. “We hope you’ll come out and become our next… ‘number one fan!’” explains Haines.

Dayton theatre

Dayton has had a long tradition of live theatre stretching back through our history, so it can feel as though it’s not something we have to actively support. However, after the pandemic, so many of our local, live performing arts have struggled to get back to pre-Covid numbers and they need us now more than ever.

“We believe that live theatre has a unique power to bring us together,” explains Drennen. “Dayton has always been a city rich in art and culture. However, in order to keep that tradition alive, we need our wonderful patrons to continue to come out and enjoy a great show.”

There are other ways to get involved, too. Local businesses can choose a sponsorship to help keep the stage lights on. And anyone can make a donation. Because, as we know, the show must go on!
