I recently had the chance to check out Dayton Ballet’s The Nutcracker thanks to Dayton Performing Arts Alliance (DPAA) and decided to turn it into a whole date night experience. Here’s how to plan your own perfect date night in Dayton!
1. Pick a Show
Ticketed events like the amazing performances by the DPAA are a perfect way to start your date night planning. Pick a ballet, opera, or philharmonic performance and get tickets – this sets your day and time, which makes the rest of your planning easy.
2. Make Reservations
There are so many amazing restaurants downtown to enjoy before or after the show. Start with my theatre district restaurant guide if you want something super close by. If you don’t mind driving, check out Sueño, Salar, Lily’s, or Wheat Penny for a great meal. Just want a snack or two or some drinks? Check out Gather, Silver Slipper, or The Silos.
Looking for a high/low date night experience (high = artsy entertainment, low = more affordable meal/drinks)? Try Yellow Cab for Pizza Bandit and drinks, Canal Street Arcade & Deli for sandwiches and games, or Tony & Pete’s for sandwiches and elevated grocery shopping.
3. Think Dessert
Extend the evening a bit by getting dessert at another great Dayton restaurant like Coco’s Bistro, Gem City Catfé, or Grist. Or what about a night cap at one of these bars?
4. Parking
Parking for a show in downtown Dayton is easy. The Arts Garage is a great bet if you’re seeing a performance at the Schuster, Victoria Theatre, or PNC Arts Annex. Otherwise, street parking is available all over the city as well as plenty of other lots and garages.
5. Snap Away
Take the photo, capture some video, and share on social!
Whether you’re taking your someone special out on the town or enjoying a solo date, downtown Dayton makes for a magical time you’ll remember. Want to see my fun date night in Dayton?
