Whether you’re introverted, have anxiety, ADHD, or just identify as a homebody, getting out and about to enjoy all that Dayton has to offer can be a challenge. If getting out more is your goal, I can help. As someone who deals with all of the above, here are my tips for making the most of our city.
Step 1: Buy tickets
Finding ticketed events you’d like to attend is a great way to anchor a plan with a firm date and time. Whether it’s a Dayton Philharmonic performance, a Human Race Theatre play, a concert at Brightside, a Dayton Dragons game, a drag brunch at Yellow Cab or Toxic Brew Co., or seeing the newest exhibit at Dayton Art Institute, there are no shortage of tickets to be had in Dayton.
Make reservations
Many restaurants accept online reservations these days, eliminating the nails-on-chalkboard feeling of having to call on the phone. Pick a date, time, and invite someone you’d like to share a meal with.
Find an event
There are so many free events taking place in Dayton like shows at Levitt Pavilion, festivals at Riverscape, and market days at The Arcade. Make plans to attend some of these great, un-ticketed events.
Write it down
At least for me, nothing makes it more official than writing it down in my planner. Jot it down on your calendar, put it on a post-it, whatever makes it “real” for you.
Step 2: Make a plan
Now that your anchor plan is set, get on Google Maps and take a look at the vicinity around the venue or restaurant you picked. What bars do you want to check out? Are there any shops you’d like to visit? Expand your plans to include one or two extra stops and you’ll get to see even more of the city.
Step 3: Enjoy, savor, document
Get the dessert, take the group photo, let the plans go where the evening takes you. Dayton has so much to see and do, be open to changing it up if the occasion (or your friends, family, date, etc.) calls for it.
Now you’re a jet-setting urbanite who’s ready to plan their next Dayton adventure!
