Mayflower in Troy’s historic downtown offers delicious food and drinks as well as fun entertainment in a renovated 1928 movie house.
The Place
Mayflower was originally a movie theatre built in 1928 and still features several charming details from its nearly 100-year history. They also play old movies on the TVs in the cocktail lounge!
The decor features moody, vibrant colors with plush furniture and touches of glamor everywhere like sparkling crystal fixtures and gold metal railings.
You can book your reservation in any one of four spaces: Cocktail Lounge, Theatre, Highball (semi-private space overlooking the cocktail lounge), or Gallery (space overlooking the theatre).
I booked two reservations: Dinner in the Cocktail Lounge and drinks in the Theatre.
The Food & Drinks
Just like you’d expect from a movie theatre, Mayflower serves complimentary fresh popcorn, and the scent gives just enough of an authentic movie theatre ambiance.
I started with their French Rose cocktail, which is made with gin, butterfly pea flower, star anise, lemon, rose water, orange bitters, and sparkling red wine.
I absolutely loved the food at Mayflower. We shared the bruschetta (goat cheese on the side so I could enjoy it vegan).
For dinner, I had the risotto, which is vegan with the option to add proteins. It was perfect! My boyfriend ordered the pesto gnocchi and loved it.
After dinner, now seated in the Theatre, I had the Strawberry Fields 2.0, featuring vodka, strawberry syrup, lemon, orange bitters, and champagne.
Everything we had was spring-y and delicious!
The Entertainment
Mayflower keeps a calendar of events so it’s easy to plan your visit around a musician/band you’d like to hear, other performances, movie nights, or even karaoke. When I was there, a duo called Waterloo 2 performed covers from several decades. It was easy to listen in but it was also possible to hear the people at your table, too.
If you’re looking for a great night out, make a reservation at Mayflower and plan on getting there early to walk around downtown for a bit first. It’s such a neat downtown to explore.
