If you’re looking for a new favorite place to hang out in Dayton, The Silos is definitely it. Designed around an old silos (but not inside of it), owners Wes Hartshorn and Shannon Thomas used several repurposed shipping containers to create an ultra-hip oasis in downtown Dayton.

The Place

It’s likely you’ve seen the collection of industrial silos while driving around downtown Dayton, especially if you frequent 2nd Street Market. One of the first big signs that The Silos was getting started was when they painted the silos – they now feature incredibly tall cactus murals.

Where you actually enter is a structure made out of repurposed storage containers – just like the ones trains haul along the tracks nearby – and not the actual silos themselves. The corrugated steel walls and concrete floor are softened by the rainforest of plants thriving and vining their way down and around every post, wall, and surface inside. They also installed plenty of garage doors so that the whole place can be opened up to the breeze on nice days.

The Silos bar is in the center and there are four permanent containers each housing a food vendor. There are so many tables and chairs on both levels that even when it’s crowded you might not have long to wait for a seat.

Venture outside for beautiful, hand-carved structures, a large patio, storage container seating areas, and an astroturf lawn for corn hole.

The Food & Drinks

There’s something for everyone at The Silos – seriously, the four vendors cover a wide variety of tastes. Currently you have your choice between Nood Bar, The Burger Bistro, Kung Fu BBQ, and Indigo. Vegans can even enjoy items from Indigo and Nood Bar.

We had a salad from Indigo and drunken noodles from Nood Bar. Both were amazing!

The Silos bar has a great selection of beer, wine, and cocktails. They even feature their own beer called Load Lifter, a pilsner made by Warped Wing just for them.
