A little while back, I had the chance to attend a special wine tasting at Joui and loved it. Here’s how it went and how you can try one with your own group.
Women in Wine
My friends Anna and Channing won a wine tasting at a charity event and had the chance to pick a few friends to join them. I was so excited they picked me! As the winners, they also got to pick the theme of the wine tasting. Joui owner, Lauren Gay, gave a few examples and Channing picked the Women in Wine theme.
Each wine in the tasting is made by a woman winemaker. Lauren made us a packet of information on the wines we were trying as well as the amazing women winemakers behind the label.
This isn’t the first time my friends’ generosity led to amazing experiences. I also got to make my own pizzas at Wheat Penny last summer.
The Wines
We tried:
NV Agnes Paquet, Crémant de Bourgogne from Burgundy, France
This was by far the favorite in our group. It’s sparkling and wonderful. Lauren’s notes on this one say that this wine has crisp green apple, citrus, and minerality.
2023 Division ‘La Frontièré,’ Sauvingnon Blanc from Wilamette Valley, Oregon
This wine was delightful, too. We especially enjoyed it with Joui’s artichoke dip hummus small plate. We had two! Lauren’s notes on the flavors in this wine are vibrant lime zest, green apple, white peach, with hints of elderflower and minerality.
2023 Catena Zapata, Malbec from Mendoza, Argentina
Malbecs are my favorite wines so it’s no surprise this one was a big favorite for me. I also thought it was a great one to round out the tasting. Lauren’s notes on this one is that it’s complex with notes of dark berry, plum, and floral with hints of spice, chocolate, and minerals.
And one of my favorite parts was getting to decorate the corks from the tasting and add them to the cork collection.
