I had the chance to try my very first silent disco with Dayton Silent Disco – here’s how it went.
The Event

What is silent disco? It’s a big party with three live DJs each represented by a color, in this case, green, red, and blue. When you walk in, you’re handed a set of headphones with a switch on one side and a volume control on the other. You use the switch to toggle between the different DJs – or, if you’re really feeling one in particular, you can just park it on that station and stay there.

The disco I went to was Dayton Silent Disco’s fifth anniversary party!
The DJs

The DJs at Dayton Silent Disco cover a variety of genres.
DJ KimL plays EDM on the green station
DJ Sexbox plays 70s, 80s, and 90s on the blue station
DJ John Chapel plays modern hip hop on the red station
The Venue

The event I went to was at The Brightside. This is a venue that I love going to because they have everything so streamlined, the bar is great, and there’s plenty of room to dance.
The bar featured special drinks in the key colors of the evening: green, blue, and red. Plus, they had the full bar available for any other drinks, plus beer, mocktails, etc.
The Details

Before going to Dayton Silent Disco, I had only done a workout version of it at Rinse Cycle, which was a little different! So, I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect. I mostly was curious if people dance, if they dress up, etc. It turns out some people dance, some don’t, some people dress to impress, others come as they are – and it’s all absolutely perfect!
Tickets can be bought at the door, but if you buy online ahead of time, you can save – plus, there’s a bulk discount if you’re buying for 10 people. These dance parties take place the last Friday of each month.
I went with friends and it was nice to be able to hear each other when we wanted to talk – which is a unique benefit to a silent disco. But because people sang along sometimes, you could still find out there was a hit on another station.
