Allergies got you down? What about those nagging symptoms that linger long after your summer cold is otherwise cured? Just need a unique place to relax? Try some halotherapy at the Centerville Salt Room!
A salt room is a place where you can sit and relax or get a massage all while breathing salt-air (salt that’s been pulverized into no more than 5 microns across). Ben Pfeiffer, owner of Centerville Salt Room, wants everyone who is even remotely curious about salt rooms to come check it out and learn more about it. Halotherapy, when used as a complement to Western medicine, helps to relieve a number of respiratory ailments, from simple seasonal allergies to serious medical conditions such as cystic fibrosis.
So what’s it like to sit in a salt room? It’s sort of like going to the beach – with the 4000 pounds of Himalayan salt and 3000 pounds of pure sea salt coating the floor, you’ll feel like you’re walking on a sandy beach.
Here are some things you should know before booking your first visit:
- Wear light-colored clothing because after a while the salt will lightly coat your body. While it won’t bother your contacts, you might have a fine layer of salt on your glasses when you’re done.
- No shoes are allowed in the salt room so you’ll have to take them off before entering.
- Breathing salt air can really help after a cold but they prefer that you not visit during the acute phase of your illness. Also, people who are under a doctor’s care for conditions such as COPD should talk to their doctor before booking an appointment.
