Dayton has some seriously delicious options for vegan meals at casual spots around town. Here are some great places to grab a vegan meal.

Old Scratch Pizza

With locations all around the Dayton area, Old Scratch makes it possible for everyone to have a great meal with a dedicated vegan section on their menu. Highlights are the Vegan Mr. Scratch and the Veg Sandwich (request it made vegan).

Lucky’s Taproom & Eatery

I’ve written before about veg people’s love of this amazing bar. Lucky’s has one of the best menus around for vegans and vegetarians who want tasty bar food staples and even more. Highlights are the Tequila Chili and Seitan Gyro.

Rapid Fired Pizza

Rapid Fired Pizza offers vegan cheese and plenty of fresh veggies. Highlights include the Build Your Own pizza and selecting all the ingredients to create the vegan garden pizza of your dreams. (Plant-based sausage and pepperoni used to be available, but doesn’t appear to be now, unfortunately.)

Gulzar’s Indian Cuisine

I love that Gulzar’s always asks if your meal needs to be made vegan. They are so helpful and informative about their entire menu. Highlights include Aloo Chana Masala and Garlic Naan.

Tony & Pete’s

There are few things in life that compare to Tony & Pete’s sandwiches. They pour so much attention into every single detail of everything they make, and their vegan options are no different. Highlights include their incomparable Vegan Cold Cut sandwich and I’m sure their Mushroom hot sandwich is incredible as well.

Power Plant Juice Bar

It’s so much fun to walk into a place and know you can order anything you want and it will be plant-based, healthy, and delicious. That’s what it’s like walking into Power Plant. Highlights include their Kali Dreamin’ smoothie and Lemony Chickpea salad.

Your Vegan Chef

When you eat a vegan diet, it doesn’t have to mean giving up all the delicious favorites you enjoyed before. Your Vegan Chef offers vegan versions of hearty meals that normally contain meat, and everything they make is vegan, so good luck deciding what to order. Follow them on Instagram to keep up with their latest offerings. Highlights include Vegan Sausage and Gravy Brunch Waffle and Soul Rolls.

Culture

This restaurant is one where you really need to read the fine print. Culture creates meat versions of things AND offer delicious vegan versions of a lot of them. I’m used to scanning a menu to get to the vegan items quickly, but take your time here and read through your options – you might miss something truly special otherwise. Highlights here include their Trippin’ on Shrooms sandwich (it’s unreal) and Collard Green Melt (vegan version).

Flavors Eatery

You have to ask for menu items to be made vegan but they are happy to do so. Flavors adds a garlic aioli to just about every menu item, so it’s the main reason you want to make sure to ask for things to be made vegan. Then you have some of the most filling meals packed with veggies! Highlights include the Hummus Veggie Bake and Baked Fries.

Nanyea

I remember wishing Dayton would get an Ethiopian restaurant one day and luckily Nanyea is everything I wanted and more! Ethiopian food happens to have many vegan options and Nanyea goes the extra mile by occasionally offering tofu as well. Highlights include Sambusa and the Veggie Combo.

ReU Juicery

Anytime you’re visiting Troy, definitely check out ReU Juicery. This place not only offers amazing juices, they also have a great menu of plant-based meals and smoothies. Highlights include the Con Queso Harvest Bowl and Ohana Juice.

Trolley Stop

Next time you’re at Trolley Stop, check for vegan specials, otherwise there are usually a few items to chose from right on the menu. Highlights include the Vegan Macho Nacho Dip and Vegan Breakfast Burrito.

Pizza Bandit

It’s so convenient having a yummy pizza shop with vegan options attached to Yellow Cab Tavern – plus, ordering online or over the phone is so easy. While they don’t have vegan slices available very often, you can always order a whole pie – and the leftovers are amazing the next day! Highlights include the Whole Vegan Pizza (add their Garlic Sauce – it’s vegan!) and the Vegan Bandit Bread.

Calypso Grill and Smokehouse

Even people who visit Yellow Springs frequently may have missed Calypso. It’s a little farther out from the main downtown area but it’s absolutely worth the drive. The food is wonderful and they have lots of island cocktails that pair perfectly with it! Highlights include Arepas and Cuban Black Beans.

De’Lish at W. Social Tap & Table

I used to love stopping in for a veggie burger back when De’Lish was across from the Victoria Theatre downtown, but now their vegan options are even more unique and exciting. Located inside W. Social Tap & Table, De’Lish offers amazing cajun, creole, comfort food to diners to enjoy there or take it to go. Highlights include the Vegan Soul Roll and Fried Green Tomatoes.

Butter Cafe

This cute breakfast and lunch restaurant on Brown Street has been serving up some of the best vegan meals in town for several years. Highlights from Butter Cafe include the Vegan Scramble and the Vegan House-made Black Bean Burger (they make their own vegan mayo and it’s delicious!).

The Ugly Duckling

There are few things in life better than a big, delicious breakfast and The Ugly Duckling offers some seriously delicious breakfast options for everyone. They’ll be moving to a new location soon, and I can’t wait for them to reopen. Highlights include the Vegan Breakfast Burrito and World Famous Pancake Platter.
