When it comes to vegan options at restaurants, unfortunately sandwiches are not normally on the menu. If you’re craving a yummy vegan sandwich, these great local options will definitely hit the spot.
Vegan Cold Cut at Tony & Pete’s
This unbelievably delicious sandwich is a dream come true. Featuring thinly sliced, marinated tofu as well as spicy chili oil, giardiniera, shredded lettuce, red onion, tomato, Tony & Pete’s vinaigrette and vegan spread, this sandwich is mouth-watering and memorable. You can try to save the second half for later but don’t be surprised if you finish it instead!
Mushroom Milanese at Wheat Penny Oven & Bar
It doesn’t get heartier than this massive sandwich. Wheat Penny deep fries a breaded portobello mushroom and places it on focaccia bread that they make in-house. They add arugula, salsa verde, and an Italian sauce that altogether makes one of the most filling and most flavorful sandwiches ever. Make sure to ask for it to be made vegan.
Veg Sandwich at Old Scratch
You have to ask to make this sandwich vegan (they just leave off the feta to make it so), but when you do, you get one of the tastiest items on the menu. Old Scratch makes this sandwich (which is more of a wrap) with a super-thin version of their crust filled with shawarma-spiced chickpeas, tomato, pickles, onions, romaine, and hummus. It comes with the cutest little snack bag of chips and their house-made pickles.
Trippin’ on Shrooms at CULTURE
This sandwich is so perfect – you feel happy just looking at it. CULTURE uses lion’s mane mushrooms from Guided by Mushrooms, fries them to golden perfection, and places them on a vegan brioche bun. They add house-made pickles sliced generously and vegan CULTURE sauce. It comes with chips and you can’t go wrong with Gusto’s Cucumber Lemonade to wash it down.
Hungry yet? I know I am! I will be on the lookout for more delicious vegan sandwiches to add here. Have a favorite I didn’t mention? Send me a note and I’ll check it out! In the meantime, here are some casual vegan eats around Dayton.
