Did you know Dayton has a British Transportation Museum? Neither did I – so when I heard about it, I had to take a look.
Here are five things to know about it.
1. The British Transportation Museum has been in the Dayton area since 2000. The museum moved into a much larger, more historical facility in the Carillon area in May 2015.
2. This is the only exclusively British museum of its kind in the entire United States. In partnership with Carillon Park and the Packard Museum, there is definitely talk about Dayton being some sort of national car attraction in the coming years.
3. They love cars. When asked why they spend so much time and effort running this museum, President Pete Stroble and Vice President Michael Barton said they love witnessing the moment someone gets hooked for life on these awesome cars. “Seeing the smiles on people’s faces –that’s what it’s all about,” said Barton.
4. “Car people” are awesome. Both Stroble and Barton confirm that “car people” are some of the best people around. In fact, when the Packard Museum’s storage facility caught fire in 2015, they received a call and came running, joining forces with other area “car people” to save as many cars as possible from the devastation.
5. You don’t need to be a car buff to enjoy. You don’t have to know anything at all about cars to enjoy the British Transportation Museum. There are so many fascinating stories about the cars themselves that are just waiting to be told. “As much as we’re in charge of the upkeep of these cars, we’re stewards of the stories and history as well,” said Barton.
